My Cirque Du Soleil Experience

Ever since I heard that the Philippines would be one of Cirque du Soleil's world tour destinations this year for Varekai, I knew I wanted to go. In fact in May, I already gave Rolly a heads-up that we're watching, and that the ticket would be his birthday present for me. Hehe. I've known that going to Cirque was expensive, so i already imposed the task on him. =P  But our plans changed, and after a while, Cirque was already out of my mind.

Then a surprise came this week. We got invites to Varekai!!! Special thanks to my wonderful boss, Ms. Lerma Mendoza! :) Take note, these were not ordinary tickets, but Tapis Rouge VIP tickets worth P10,500! The best seats in the house! AMAZING! :)
Varekai, according to Wikipedia, means "wherever" in the Romani language, and the show is an "acrobatic tribute to the nomadic soul." The plot is based loosely on the Greek myth of Icarus, who melts his wings after flying too close to the sun. Rather than drowning in the sea below him, in Varekai Icarus lands inside a lush forest, in which the creatures teach him how to fly again.

The acts were spectacular! There was a 'no picture-taking' policy inside the tent, so I just borrowed photos from the Official Site of Varekai to give you a glimpse of  what's in store in case you want to watch the show yourself. ;)
FLIGHT OF ICARUS
ICARIAN
WATER METEORS
TRIPLE TRAPEZE

GEORGIAN DANCE
SLIPPERY SURFACE

SOLO ON CRUTCHES
HAND BALANCING
RUSSIAN SWINGS
AERIAL HOOP

If hearts skip a beat when you fall in love, with Varekai, yours will skip countless beats, literally and figuratively. The breathtaking acts would make your jaw drop. While watching, at the back of my head i was wishing for them to stop.  Hindi kasi ako makahinga, scared they might fall. =D Whew!

Besides enjoying the best seats in the house, the Tapis Rouge VIP tix also allowed us special privileges like access to the Tapis Rouge suite via an exclusive entrance, fine wines and refreshments followed by desserts during intermission catered by The Manila Hotel, a souvenir program, and private restrooms. Weeeee!!! What a grand night it was! :)

 Cheers,
